The Tennessee Titans tangle with the New England Patriots in an AFC Wild Card matchup in the northeast Saturday night. Tennessee clinched the final playoff spot in the AFC by thrashing Houston 35-14 on the road Sunday afternoon. New England suffered the perfect storm as they were defeated 27-24 at home by Miami in their last game Sunday afternoon. The Patriots lead the all-time regular season series 23-16-1, though it was the Titans earning a 34-10 home win in the most recent matchup on November 11, 2018.
New England Patriots Review
New England had their chances where all they needed was a win over Miami in week 17 to lock up a first-round bye. Instead, the Patriots, despite being favored by 17 points at home, lost the game and saw Kansas City win to send them to the wild card round. New England opened their season with a 33-3 home demolition of Pittsburgh and followed that up with one-sided wins over Miami (43-0) on the road and the Jets (30-14) at home. The Patriots then slugged their way to a tough win (16-10) at Buffalo before whipping Washington (33-7) on the road and the Giants (35-14) at home. New England then hammered the Jets on a Monday night (33-0) on the road and forced turnovers on three straight plays en route to a home win (27-13) over Cleveland.

Tennessee Titans Review
Tennessee struggled in the first half of the season, starting the year 2-4. Since that point, the team won seven of their final 10 games to clinch a playoff spot. The Titans opened the season by dismantling Cleveland 43-13 on the road before falling 19-17 at home to Indianapolis and 20-7 on the road to Jacksonville on a Thursday night. Tennessee bounced back by dominating Atlanta 24-10 on the road to get back to .500 but losses at home to Buffalo (14-7) and on the road at Denver (16-0) left them 2-4 on the season. The Titans rebounded with close home victories over the Chargers (23-20) and the Buccaneers (27-23) to get to the .500 mark on the season before losing on the road (30-20) to Carolina.
The New England Patriots last played on Wild Card Weekend on January 10, 2010. They lost to the Baltimore Ravens in lopsided fashion by a 33-14 score. Is a similar fate awaiting the Patriots in this week’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans? According to the odds, probably not, as the Patriots are favored by 4.5 points, but they were favored by four points on the ill-fated January day 10 years ago, too.
The Ravens jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Ray Rice took the first play 83 yards to the house and Baltimore never led by fewer than 13 points after their second possession. The Ravens outrushed the Patriots 234-64 and outgained Tom Brady & Co. by a 268-196 count. That’s right. Baltimore had 34 passing yards in the game.
